How long has Swiss DolorClast® Radial Shockwave Therapy® been available?
The device has been on the market since autumn 1999.

Which injuries can be treated with Radial Shockwaves®?
The following indications can be treated:

  • calcific tendinosis of the shoulder – painful restriction of movement of the shoulder tendon / muscle attachments
  • tennis elbow – painful irritation of the elbow
  • heel spur – calcaneal spur, mostly chronic, painful inflammation under the heel
  • Achilles tendonitis– mostly inflammation-induced change causing pain in the Achilles tendon
  • patellar tendonitis – pain under strain of the knee cap
  • tibia edge syndrome – pain under strain of the shin
  • trochanteric bursitis – inflammation of the tendon / muscle attachments of the upper leg

Can arthritis be treated with Radial Shockwaves®?
No, this indication has not (yet) been proven by clinical studies.  Many doctors, however, successfully treat other indications not listed above with the Swiss DolorClast®. WIGERO, however, can only indicate those that have already been proven by clinical studies.

I was operated on my tendon. The operation was not successful. Is it possible to apply Radial Shockwaves® now?
Yes.

Are there any doctors specialising in the treatment of  tennis elbow, calcific tendinosis of the shoulder etc. using Radial Shockwave Therapy®?
Please ask your  orthopaedic surgeon / physiotherapist where he offers treatment with the Swiss DolorClast®You will find reference centers on these pages. Please feel free to contact WIGERO in order to find out which doctors in your home area offer treatment with Radial Shockwaves®.

All doctors offering Radial Shockwave Therapy® have undergone special training.

What happens during treatment?
The doctor will carry out a simple manual examination of the painful area. (using ultrasound in cases of shoulder pain). Treatment is carried out by massaging over the injured area with the shockwave applicator. In order to improve the transmittance of the shockwave into the body, a special contact gel is used. Guided by your feedback, the exact positioning of  the shockwave applicator is determined for optimum results.

Is the treatment painful??
Sensivity to pain differs from one individual to another. Should you wish so, the doctor may anaesthetise the pain area before treatment. However, in most cases this is not necessary.

Are there any side effects?
After treatment, a local swelling, haematoma may occur. The side effects will vanish after a few days.

Are there any scientific studies on this treatment? Can you send them to me?
Before a medical device may be used, extensive studies on its effectiveness must be carried out. The manufacturer of the Swiss DolorClast®, EMS-Electro Medical Systems, has respected this. We can send you the results. They are, however, written in scientific style.

Can I expect to be pain-free after three treatments?
The therapy usually takes one to three sessions of approximately 10 minutes. Marked pain relief is observed in most patients in just eight to ten days after the first treatment. Many patients report an improvement after the first treatment. But there are also cases when an improvement occurs some weeks after the third session everybody reacts differently. There are no guarantees - even an operation may not succeed.

A friend of mine told me about a very big shockwave device. Is this an older Swiss DolorClast® model?
No. Big machines are devices of other manufacturers offering a so-called focussed shockwave therapy.

What is the price for a treatment?
In Germany, Radial Shockwave Therapy® is a so-called IGel service, i. e. a treatment for which the price is determined between doctor and patient. For this reason, WIGERO cannot give a price on how much a doctor charges. Please ask your doctor directly.

What is the price of the device?
The device is only sold to doctors as it’s use demands specialised knowledge of the human body.

A friend of mine was treated several years ago – without success!
If the treatment was done before 1999, it cannot have been Radial Shockwave Therapy® as this therapy has only been on the market since autumn 1999.

No one can give any guarantee in medicine as everybody reacts differently. Even an operation may not result in freedom of pain.

Can I (being a patient) buy the device?
No. The device is only sold to doctors as its use demands for specialised knowledge of the human body.

Can the so-called Trigger Therapy be carried out with the Swiss DolorClast®?
Yes. There are many doctors offering Trigger Shockwave Therapy. Please ask your doctor directly.
